Maybe Practice Does Make Perfect For WVU’s Free-Throw Shooting?

It might be really hard to take anything positive away from the 85-59 loss to No. 9 Kansas, on Saturday. But, one major improvement the Mountaineers have shown recently is their free-throw shooting.

This week, against Oklahoma State and Kansas, West Virginia combined to shoot 42-of-50, which is 84 percent from the free-throw line. In the past five games, WVU has shot 79 percent.

Last Five Games:

  • Youngstown State / 25-34
  • @ Texas / 9-11
  • Kansas State / 12-17
  • Oklahoma State / 21-22
  • @ Kansas / 21-28

This is the same team that was on pace to have the program’s worst free-throw shooting team in 33 years. On Dec. 9, West Virginia was 347th in the country. Now, the team is 295th in free-throw percentage. How has the team improved?

“They’ve got the greatest facilities in America,” Huggins said after a 12-of-27 performance against UConn. “That place is open 24/7 for them and there’s six baskets in there.”

Safe to say that the players have been working on their craft at the charity stripe, but can the Mountaineers keep it up?
