West Virginia’s basketball staff reached out to Manhattan transfer forward Seydou Traore in the portal, as reported by On3 Sports.

Traore is a 6-foot-7 freshman prospect who entered the transfer portal on Wednesday.

Traore has heard from Cincinnati, Clemson, FAU, Florida State, Georgetown, Louisville, Michigan, Minnesota, North Texas, Ole Miss, Oregon, Richmond, Saint Louis, San Diego State, Syracuse, Temple, USC, Vanderbilt, VCU, West Virginia and others in the transfer portal.

Traore averaged 11.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the Jaspers this past season. The New York native also averaged 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks on the defensive side of the ball. Traore shot 43% from the field during his freshman campaign. Traore earned MAAC All-Freshman honors.

Traore has three years of eligibility remaining.

Despite it being a new staff, WVU has been familiar with Manhattan players as the previous staff recruited Jose Perez and Omar Silverio to the program. Perez and Silverio never stepped foot on the court for a game after dealing with waiver issues and Perez parting ways before this season.

WVU has landed three transfer commitments with Tucker DeVries (G/F – Drake), Sencire Harris (G – Illinois) and Amani Hansberry (F – Illinois) so far this offseason and lost Josiah Harris (F), Seth Wilson (G), Patrick Suemnick (F), Kerr Kriisa (G), Jeremiah Bembry (G), Kobe Johnson (G) and Ali Ragab (C). WVU also has a high school commitment from former Drake signee KJ Tenner.
