Mountaineers Accept Invite to the CBI
The West Virginia Mountaineers (14-20) have accepted an invitation to the College Basketball Invitational and will play the Grand Canyon Antelopes (20-13) in the first round on Wednesday night inside the WVU Coliseum at 7:00 pm est. This is the Mountaineers first appearance in the CBI and this will be the first meeting between the two programs.
The Mountaineers had won four out of their last six games before the loss to Kansas Friday night in the Big 12 semifinal. WVU had caught fire towards the end of the year, highlighted by the upset win over No. 7 Texas Tech Thursday night and look to keep the momentum going in the post-season.
If the Mountaineers were to advance, they will play the winner of Coastal Carolina and Howard on March 25th.
In a unique twist, the championship game is a three-game series and will be televised on ESPNU.
