MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In addition to discussing the bye week and WVU’s upcoming game with Oklahoma State, Neal Brown also offered his thoughts on some national news that happened while his team was off during his weekly press conference.

On Monday, Brown was asked to weigh in on the fallout of quarterback Matthew Sluka exiting UNLV. Brown said he knows what the general public has been made aware of to this point.

“These things are so fluid, Mike (Asti). They’re so fluid. You don’t know if what you read is accurate,” said Brown. “We didn’t talk about it with any of our players. We didn’t have any discussions with them. I didn’t bring it up in a team meeting.”

But after making it clear he’s not clear he’s not worried about the same thing happening to him at West Virginia, Brown did expand further and express some of his opinions on the matter.

“I think you have to navigate it the best way you see fit. I think each situation is unique. I really can’t speak on UNLV because I wasn’t apart of it. I don’t know what their processes are. I feel comfortable with our processes. I probably wouldn’t have said that three years ago, but confident in what we are doing as far as our processes,” explained Brown.

Of course, when Brown mentions “processes” or procedures, he’s talking about the marriage between the program and Country Roads Trust – its NIL collective. If a coach promises something to a recruit, CRT knows about it and vice versa. Brown believes the WVU football program and CRT are in lockstep with each other and that will avoid what it appears led to Sluka’s departure at UNLV.

For a related story, WVU head coach Neal Brown discussed the depth of the Big 12 and his approach to the schedule.
