Josh Eilert, Patrick Suemnick Return Games vs. WVU Revealed
Former WVU head coach Josh Eilert and forward Patrick Suemnick will be making their returns to Morgantown this season with their respective teams. Eilert is serving as an assistant for Utah while Suemnick is using his final year of eligibility at Oklahoma State.
Jan. 4 vs. Oklahoma State
Feb. 8 vs. Utah
Eilert had been with West Virginia’s program for 17 seasons after following Bob Huggins from Kansas State. Eilert was promoted to a main assistant role after Erik Martin took the South Carolina State job in 2022. Eilert spent his first six seasons at WVU as a video coordinator under Huggins.
Eilert served as the Mountaineers’ interim head coach during the 2023-24 season, replacing Huggins for the season following his resignation. Under Eilert, West Virginia finished 9-23 as the team struggled to get on the floor together. WVU’s highlights included ranked wins over Kansas and Texas at home.
Eilert now joins a Utah team that will transition from the Pac-12 to the Big 12 beginning this athletic year.
Suemnick entered the transfer portal on April 10, a few weeks following WVU’s hiring of Darian DeVries.
Suemnick averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds through 32 games for the Mountaineers this past season. The 6-foot-8 forward filled in for Jesse Edwards, who dealt with a fractured wrist injury for over a month during the season and posted 8.2 points and 4.8 rebounds during his six starts. Suemnick’s highlight of the 2023-24 season occurred vs. Kansas, scoring 20 points and leading the Mountaineers to an upset win over the then-No. 3 Jayhawks.
