Playmaker WR Has ‘Chance’ to Make WVU Football Debut Against Virginia

After creating some doubt about when WVU football would be able to employ one of their top offseason acquisitions last week, Rich Rodriguez offered a more optimistic tone on Monday night.

Rodriguez hinted that wide receiver Prince Strachan may make his Mountaineer debut in the team’s biggest game of the year to date, a prime-time matchup with Virginia this Saturday.

“He’s got a chance for this one,” said Rodriguez when asked about Strachan’s status during his radio show. “He’s been practicing a little bit. He’ll practice tomorrow in a green jersey, so he’ll be limited contact but full speed there. We’ll see how he reacts to that, and if he can handle Tuesday, Wednesday practice. We’re hopeful he’ll go Saturday.”

Strachan missed both the season opener and Week 2, although some speculated that Rodriguez was simply resting his deep threat this past weekend against an FCS opponent.

WVU’s first veteran transfer addition of the offseason, Strachan only appeared in one game with USC, catching a single pass for 25 yards. However, he made 25 receptions for 304 yards and scored a touchdown with Boise State. While with the Broncos, he made four big catches for 40 yards against Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl.

Having grown up in The Bahamas, Strachan and did not begin playing football until 2019 after moving to the United States. He then played high school football at John Carroll High School in Florida.

West Virginia is slated to battle Virginia at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. this coming Saturday at 7:30 pm ET.
