WVU Football Included in New Bowl Projection After Week 2

Sitting at 2-0 heading into a premiere matchup in Week 3, WVU football continues to be projected to have a postseason.

West Virginia’s 52-7 win over UT Martin has led to new bowl predictions for two of Rich Rodriguez’s second tenure in Morgantown.

Rich Rodriguez Accomplishes First for WVU Since 2018 With Week 2 Win

The Mountaineers will end the season in the Independence Bowl against UCLA, according to multiple ESPN writers. The Independence Bowl will take place in Shreveport, Louisiana on Dec. 22 at 8:30 pm ET on ESPN.

CBS, who also had WVU in the Independence Bowl after Week 1, now points to the Cactus Bowl as the spot for West Virginia. In this scenario, WVU would face fellow historic program fallen on some recent tougher times Nebraska on Dec. 26. The Cactus Bowl is located in Tempe, Ariz. and the game will kickoff at 7:30 pm ET.

But before West Virginia can worry about bowl games or trying to earn an opportunity inside the College Football Playoff, the Mountaineers are slated to battle Virginia at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. this coming Saturday at 7:30 pm ET.
