RMU AD Shares WVU Experience Following Week 1 Matchup

It’s not often the losing athletic director compliments the program who just beat his school. However, that’s exactly what happened a couple days after WVU opened the 2025 season with 45-3 win over Robert Morris.

RMU vice president and director of athletics Chris King sent a message of appreciation to West Virginia on Monday night.

“A sincere thank you to Wren Baker and the WVU team for the outstanding hospitality during our football trip to Morgantown. First-class professionalism, customer service, and game-day operations from start to finish. Truly impressed by the WVU experience,” said King on social media.

Of course, King also likely appreciates the financial benefit for RMU from their short road trip south as well.

Despite the big win, WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez was less than fully satisfied after the game.

“Well, I’d like to say that was a typical first game, but I don’t know if I’ve ever had or seen three fumbles in four plays. That’s what I think we had. I know we had three straight fumbles. So, we obviously didn’t play well at all in the first half. West Virginia beating West Virginia,” said Rodriguez immediately following WVU’s Week 1 win.

“There were some things we did okay, but you know, obviously not playing like we should’ve and the second half went like it should’ve. So we’ll take the win, learn from it. Obviously, there are a lot of things to clean up and fix, but there are a lot of guys playing for the first time and there are a lot of things we’ve got to do as a staff to be better for next week. We’ll take the win and grow from it and see what happens next.”

WVU now hopes to receive the same hospitality they showed Robert Morris by Ohio when the Mountaineers travel to Athens to take on the Bobcats.

Kickoff of the West Virginia Mountaineers (1-0) at the Ohio Bobcats (0-1) from Athens, Ohio is set for 4 pm ET.
