Sean McNeil Has Heard From 23 Schools Since Entering Transfer Portal

Just hours after former West Virginia guard Sean McNeil entered his name into the transfer portal, Travis Graf of Rivals reported that over 23 schools have reached out to McNeil.

Akron, Cincinnati, Clemson, Creighton, Eastern Kentucky, Florida, Indiana, Lipscomb, Louisville, Minnesota, Missouri, Morehead State, Nebraska, Northern Kentucky, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Richmond, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, Virginia, Western Kentucky and others have reached out to the former Mountaineer. 

McNeil released a statement about him entering the transfer portal on Monday.

“First off, I want to say thank you to coach Huggins and the entire West Virginia staff. You all took a chance on me from Junior College and gave me an opportunity and I am forever grateful for that. To Mountaineer nation, I appreciate you being by mine and the team’s side every step of the way whether we won or lost. My time at West Virginia and the memories I’ve made will hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my life. After much thought and consideration, I have decided it is in my best interest to enter the transfer portal, McNeil wrote in a tweet,” McNeil said in a tweet.

McNeil spent three seasons at West Virginia from 2019-22. The Union, KY, native scored 900 points in 89 career games for the Mountaineers. McNeil was a key piece to the 2021 NCAA Tournament team that earned a 3-seed, advancing to the round of 32. McNeil averaged 12.2 points during his senior campaign.
