MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – On Monday afternoon, it was first reported by Verbal Commits that West Virginia senior guard Sean McNeil has entered the transfer portal. McNeil has a year of eligibility left and will use it elsewhere.

“First off, I want to say thank you to coach Huggins and the entire West Virginia staff. You all took a chance on me from Junior College and gave me an opportunity and I am forever grateful for that. To Mountaineer nation, I appreciate you being by mine and the team’s side every step of the way whether we won or lost. My time at West Virginia and the memories I’ve made will hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my life. After much thought and consideration, I have decided it is in my best interest to enter the transfer portal, McNeil wrote in a tweet.”

McNeil spent three seasons at West Virginia from 2019-22. The Union, KY, native scored 900 points in 89 career games for the Mountaineers. McNeil was a key piece to the 2021 NCAA Tournament team that earned a 3-seed, advancing to the round of 32. McNeil averaged 12.2 points during his senior campaign.

This has been a decision that McNeil has been thinking about for a while now, as he was ‘unsure’ about what he was going to do on senior day.

“I don’t know, we’ll see how the summer goes,” McNeil said. “I honestly couldn’t tell you.”
