WVU transfer forward Tre Mitchell is considering West Virginia in his recruitment, a source tells WV Sports Now. Tristan Pharis of KY Insider was the first to report Mitchell’s interest.

Mitchell has heard from DePaul, Georgetown, Kansas State, Kentucky, Memphis, Oklahoma State, Xavier and others. Mitchell’s name officially appeared in the transfer portal database on Friday morning.

Kentucky has been a team linked to Mitchell this week as the Wildcats are looking to complete their roster. John Calipari and his coaching staff have struggled to retool their roster through the transfer portal but do bring in the top high school class in the country.

Mitchell (6-foot-9) appeared in all 34 games for West Virginia this past season. The Texas transfer averaged 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds on 47 percent shooting from the field and 36 percent shooting from three. Mitchell was a consistent starter who helped return WVU to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021. Mitchell skipped out on declaring for the NBA draft to return to West Virginia for his final year of eligibility but that changed with the coaching search looming.

Mitchell has one year of eligibility remaining.

WV Sports Now will keep you up to date with the latest on Mitchell’s recruitment as well as the coaching search.
