WVU F Tre Mitchell announced on social media on Wednesday that he will return to West Virginia for his fifth season of eligibility. Mitchell had the option to use his extra COVID year.

“Run it back WV,” Mitchell wrote.

Mitchell (6-foot-9) will return as the leading scorer out of the players that could return from this past season’s team. Mitchell averaged 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds during this senior year with WVU. The UMass and Texas transfer shot 47 percent from the field and 37 percent from three during his first year for the Mountaineers.

Mitchell will join Joe Toussaint as the official returning fifth-year seniors. West Virginia will bring in Jose Perez (Manhattan), Omar Silverio (Manhattan) and Kerr Kriisa (Arizona) from the transfer portal so far and look to add more pieces. WVU is hosting visits for Syracuse transfer Jesse Edwards and Iowa State transfer Caleb Grill over the next week.
