WVU Basketball recently picked up a commitment from Eastern Michigan transfer guard Noah Farrakhan on Thursday. Farrakhan will most likely sit out during the 2023-24 season as he becomes the eighth incoming transfer over the last year. The fall semester has started but that’s not stopping West Virginia’s coaching staff from recruiting the transfer portal.

Sources tell WV Sports Now that WVU’s basketball program is looking to add one or two more pieces to the current roster. West Virginia currently has 13 players on roster once the recent transfers sign and enroll. Just like last season, West Virginia could look to having players walk on and have NIL pay off their tuition.

It appears that the coaching staff is after two veteran players, one guard and one big. It’s also assumed that these players are graduate transfers so West Virginia doesn’t have to go through the NCAA more times this offseason. These two players can come in and bring in veteran presence to finalize the depth on the roster.

West Virginia University’s deadline to register for classes is next Tuesday, Aug. 22. This is a date to keep an eye on as the basketball program looks to keep adding from the transfer portal. West Virginia can still add players after the enrollment deadline but risk the headache of needing a waiver for either semester.

West Virginia has RaeQuan Battle and Farrakhan in need of a waiver. Both players have transferred multiple times during their undergraduate careers. West Virginia’s staff is currently working on Battle’s waiver and the timeline for an answer from the NCAA is unknown.
