Top 5 Quarterbacks West Virginia will face in 2018

No.1 – Ryan Finley, NC State

What I believe is the top quarterback on the Mountaineers 2018 schedule, doesn’t even belong in the Big 12 conference. I’m not a huge fan of Finley, but it just goes to show how many key play makers the Big 12 lost from last year and how many teams are coming into the year with a new starting quarterback. Finley does however, hold the most experience (26 starts) among opposing gunslingers that West Virginia will see.

Finley is very comparable to Kyle Kempt of Iowa State, takes good care of the ball, many high percentage throws, manages the game well and does not take many shots down the field. He only tossed 17 touchdowns a year ago in which he had 478 pass attempts, to put that into perspective, Will Grier had twice as many touchdowns (34) in 388 pass attempts and also in three less games. So what I mean by this is, Finley isn’t your typical quarterback that you would see on this list that hails from the Big 12 with gaudy numbers. He will, however, pose a big challenge for the Mountaineers this fall. West Virginia seems to have trouble with power run teams and that is exactly what helps Finley. I would consider him a system quarterback, one that needs a strong run game and high percentage throws in order to succeed.

Some NFL Draft experts have fallen in love with Finley’s tools ans size and project him to potentially be one of the top five quarterbacks taken in next years draft.
