Update on Former Mountaineers in NBA Summer League

As NBA Summer League poll play soon concludes, let’s take a look at the former Mountaineers who are competing in the event. Seven ex-WVU players are on a summer league roster.

RaeQuan Battle, Charlotte Hornets

Stats: 2.3 minutes, 2 games

Battle received an invitation to summer league from the Hornets following the NBA draft. Battle is now fighting for a two-way contract. During his California Classic debut for the Hornets last week, Battle recorded an efficient 12 points on six shots in 14 minutes.

Battle also opened up about his Native American heritage during an interview for Hornets.com.

Jalen Bridges, Phoenix Suns

Stats: 5.5 PTS, 2.5 REB, 1.5 AST, 40% FG, 15.8 minutes, 2 games

Bridges signed a two-way deal with the Suns following the NBA draft. The Fairmont native went undrafted but is getting an opportunity in Phoenix.

Jesse Edwards, Minnesota Timberwolves

Stats: 3.0 PTS, 4.0 REB, 1.3 AST, 1.3 BLK, 33% FG, 15.7 minutes, 3 games

Edwards signed a two-way deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves after an impressive effort during the draft process. The Netherlands native worked his way from the Reese’s All-Star Game to an NBA draft combine invite. Edwards has had his moments of good play but is shooting just 33% from the field.

Gabe Osabuohien, Cleveland Cavaliers

Stats: 1.5 PTS, 1.5 REB, 1.5 AST, 8.7 minutes, 2 games

Osabuohien is familiar with Cleveland’s organization, playing for the Cavaliers’ G-League team the past two seasons.

Erik Stevenson, Washington Wizards

Stats: 7.0 PTS, 4.0 minutes, 1 game

Stevenson appeared in a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, scoring an efficient seven points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field. Stevenson did record two fouls as well during his short time on the floor. The Lacey, Wa. native played with the Austin Spurs (San Antonio) and Texas Legends (Dallas) G-League teams last year.

Emmitt Matthews Jr. (Atlanta Hawks) and Tre Mitchell (Oklahoma City Thunder) are on their respective teams, but have not appeared in summer league games so far.
