Seahawks Sign Former WVU WR After Success in UFL

A former Mountaineer has managed to successfully use the UFL to earn another shot a the NFL. After proving himself with the UFL’s Michigan Panthers in 2024, Marcus Sims is signing with the Seattle Seahawks.

James Larson of the UFL Newsroom was first with the news late Tuesday night. Larson’s report also came soon after Sims’ UFL contract was officially terminated. Sims’ old WVU teammate Bryce Ford-Wheaton offered a “LFG!” to show his support.

Simms, who will now hope to earn the trust of fellow Mountaineer and Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, earned All-UFL honors in 2024 with the Panthers. He caught 23 balls for 426 yards and scored three touchdowns while averaging 18.5 yards per catch.

Simms also played for the Panthers in the USFL before the league merged with the XFL to form the UFL.

Simms spent three years in Morgantown from 2016-2018. During his WVU career, the Bowie, Md. native played in 33 games and made 10 starts. Overall, he made 87 receptions for 1,457 yards and scored eight touchdowns. He even returned 41 kickoffs and 23 punts for over 1,000 yards in return yardage.

Simms’ best West Virginia season came in 2018 when he posted a line of 46 receptions, 699 yards and two touchdowns.
