Watch: Bob Huggins Receives Warm Welcome at Akron Game
Most recognize Bob Huggins for his WVU, and even Cincinnati, tenures, but Akron provided him his first opportunity to lead a Division I program. With Akron holding a special significance to Huggins, he took in a Zips’ game on Friday night.
While in attendance, Huggins received a warm welcome and a big ovation from the Akron crowd.
Huggins, now 72, owns 935 career wins, which ranks third on the all-time wins list amongst coaches. He led both Cincinnati (1992) and WVU (2010) to an appearance in the Final Four. Huggins was named Big 12 Coach of the Year in 2015 and was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022.
He coached at Akron from 1984-89, compiling a 97–46 record and reaching post-season play in three of his five seasons, including an NCAA bid in 1985–86 season.
