Former Mountaineer Beanie Bishop made his first career NFL interception on Sunday Night Football off a future Hall of Famer. Bishop’s big moment took place in the first half of the Steelers-Jets.

Bishop’s pick of Aaron Rodgers eventually led to Pittsburgh’s first touchdown of the game. The WVU product has three total tackles and a pass deflection in addition to his interception in just one half of football.

Bishop, who has played in each of the Steelers’ first seven games and made his second start on Sunday, entered the night with 10 tackles, a 0.5 sack and a couple pass deflections on the season.

Bishop has continually reiteratedย his desire to prove his doubters, even NFL teams who passed on him, wrong ever since he showed up in Pittsburgh as a free agent signee of the Steelers.

โ€œItโ€™s one of those things that helps me every day whenever I think about getting comfortable,โ€ Bishop expressed to WV Sports Now in May.

Bishop has actually carried a chip on his shoulder going back to when he was an undersized kid. That chip then intensified when he had to start his college career at a Group of 5 program in Western Kentucky.

โ€œIโ€™m 0 surprised with Beanie. Heโ€™s a football player. He may not check off all the boxes but heโ€™s a football player,โ€ said WVU head coach Neal Brown when asked about Bishop already making his presence felt with the Steelers.

Bishop became a consensus All-American in his lone season as a Mountaineer in 2023. He picked off four passes for WVU.
