West Virginia Baseball Stays at No. 24 in Latest D1 Baseball Poll

West Virginia baseball held steady in the latest D1 Baseball ranking poll, listed at No. 24 for the second consecutive week.

The Mountaineers struggled a bit this week, going 3-2 across a five game home stand as their nine game winning streak came to an end: managing to keep pace is a solid result.

It was an up and down week for the Mountaineers at the plate. Head coach Randy Mazey said on Saturday that after the team’s offensive explosions against Appalachian State and UNC Greensboro last week (at one point, the Mountaineers scored 64 runs across three games), he thinks the team expected the offensive success moving forward.

Baseball can humble you fast, so perhaps West Virginia was still working through the come down from the high-scoring weekend.

That they were able to post a winning record on the week is a testament to Mazey’s leadership and the calmness of their veterans to hang in it in difficult games.

The Mountaineers begin conference play this weekend, facing Kansas State on the road.
