West Virginia DC Jordan Lesley Not Named New Troy Head Coach

Published

on

After being linked with Troy’s head coaching position, even being linked as a finalist for the position, West Virginia defensive coordinator Jordan Lesley had not been named the new head coach.

Kentucky co-defensive coordinator Jon Sumrall has been named the new Troy head coach, replacing Chip Lindsey who was fired after three largely unsuccessful seasons with the program

Sumrall served as an assistant under WVU head coach Neal Brown while the latter served as the head coach at Troy, working as the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach under Brown from 2015-2018.

Sumrall left for Ole Miss in 2018, spending a season as the linebackers coach, before moving to Kentucky. He served as the inside linebackers coach from 2019-20, and he was promoted to co-defensive coordinator this past season.

Lesley, who was an assistant coach at Troy at the same time as Sumrall, had reportedly interviewed for the Troy opening, but for now, he will remain at West Virginia as the defensive coordinator.
