Where Does WVU Football Rank in Big 12 for Miles Traveled in 2025?
Conference expansion has changed the college football landscape across the nation, resulting in many schools traveling further distances for games than before. When it comes to the Big 12, WVU will have the fourth-most miles traveled this season with 12,592.50, per Bookies.com.
The Mountaineers will play two games on the West Coast with BYU on Oct. 3 and Arizona State on Nov. 15. Arizona State marks WVU’s longest trip this season at 3,632.38 miles.
WVU will also cross 12 time zones throughout the 2025 season. The team crossing the most time zones is Kansas State with 18.
WVU’s away game schedule includes Ohio University on Sept. 6, Kansas on Sept. 20, BYU on Oct. 3, UCF on Oct. 18, Houston on Nov. 1 and Arizona State on Nov. 15. The matchup against the Ohio Bobcats will be the shortest travel distance WVU has this season at 233.54 miles.
BYU, Kansas State and Iowa State all rank ahead of WVU in miles traveled this season. BYU is set to cover 13, 528.60 miles, Kansas State will go 13.389.52 miles and Iowa State will travel 13,290.80 miles. Kansas State and Iowa State will open the season in Dublin, Ireland, adding substantial miles to their respective totals.
Last season, WVU tallied the most miles traveled out of any Big 12 team with 11,138. The Mountaineers had road matchups at Pitt, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Cincinnati and Texas Tech.
WVU finished with a 6-7 record last year, including a loss in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl in Frisco, Texas. The team had a 3-2 record on the road, with the two losses coming against Pitt on Sept. 14 and Texas Tech on Nov. 30.
Rich Rodriguez is back at the helm of the football program. During his first stint at WVU from 2001-2007, he accumulated a 25-12 road record.
The Mountaineers will begin the 2025 season hosting Robert Morris at 2 p.m. on Aug. 30.
