Right-handed pitcher Michael Kilker announced Tuesday that he plans to leave the WVU baseball program and has entered his name into the Transfer Portal.

Kilker, a sophomore, made just one appearance this season, giving up two runs in one inning in the Mountaineers’ February 26 loss at Arizona.

Playing time seems to be the issue, then, as Kilker saw his innings drop dramatically from the 2022 campaign, where he made 11 appearances—including two starts—pitching to a 6.17 ERA across 13.1 innings.

In his official statement, Kilker offered his thanks to his teammates and coaching staff.

“I would like to thank my teammates for giving me two of the most memorable years of my life,” Kilker said. “I would also like to thank the coaching staff at West Virginia for giving me an opportunity to play at the power five level.”

The announcement comes as WVU Baseball (who won a share of the regular season Big 12 Championship for the first time in program history) prepares for the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in the Lexington, Ky. Regional, where they sit as the No. 2 seed set to face off against Indiana on Friday, June 2.

Kilker, meanwhile, gets a head start on the offseason as he looks to find a new home.
