WVU Basketball has announced the signing of Iona and St. John’s transfer Quinn Slazinski, per release. Slazinski committed to West Virginia last Thursday, as he entered the transfer portal that same day.

Slazinski (6-foot-9, 215 pounds) will wear No. 11 for the Mountaineers, according to the team’s website.

“Quinn is a veteran basketball player who is a high-character individual with an infectious personality and a competitive spirit,” interim head coach Josh Eilert said. “He’s a guy who can shoot and pass the ball. Quinn will allow us to stretch the floor with his shot-making ability. He’s very familiar with our program and the state of West Virginia after spending two seasons at Huntington Prep.”

Slazinski transferred to St. John’s earlier in the spring after head coach Rick Pitino took the job. Slazinski played the previous two seasons at Iona under Pitino, appearing in 40 games over that span. The Houston, Texas native averaged 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds in just seven games for the Gaels. Slazinski dealt with knee and ankle injuries last season and was eventually shut down by Pitino for season-ending surgery in January.

Slazinksi began his career at Louisville under Chris Mack, committing from Huntington Prep. Out of high school, Slazinski was a three-star prospect.

Slazinski, at the moment, has one year of eligibility remaining but could be granted another year for a medical redshirt.

Slazinski is the 11th player signed to West Virginia’s roster, as Jose Perez exited the transfer portal late Friday night. WVU’s coaching staff has two scholarship spots to fill as of Monday, July 24.
