West Virginia reliever Jacob Watters has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List, the organization announced Wednesday.

The award recognizes the best relievers in college baseball. A total of 65 pitchers were named to the midseason list and finalists will be named on June 9.

Watters, a right-hander from Rocky Gap, Virginia, is sporting a 1.23 ERA in 14 2/3 innings for the Mountaineers this season. The sophomore has allowed just three runs (two earned) while striking out 30 opposing batters. He has held opponents to a .160 batting average against and has collected two saves this season. Watters has only allowed one run in his last eight appearances, dating back to March 19.

The Mountaineers return to Mom County Ballpark and kick off an 11-game homestand on Friday with the first of three games against No. 5 TCU this weekend.
