Big 12 Conference announced on Monday afternoon that West Virginia forward Tre Mitchell has been named the conference’s player of the week. This is WVU’s first recipient of the honor this season.

Mitchell led WVU to a 2-0 record last week with wins over Navy and UAB. The senior forward averaged 16.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists during the week.

Mitchell is eight weeks off his foot surgery in mid-October. The Texas transfer has been using the beginning of the season to get back into game shape. Mitchell is averaging 12.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists through 10 games. Mitchell is shooting 56 percent from the field and 39 percent from three.

Oklahoma G Grant Sherfield was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in the same press release.
