West Virginia placekicker Evan Staley exited Saturday’s game against Kansas State in the first half after suffering an injury on kickoff coverage.

On his Twitter Sunday morning, Staley announced that he will miss the remainder of the 2020 season.

“Unfortunately, I will be out for the rest of the season and will be getting surgery next week,” Staley wrote. “I am ready to start the recovery process and am already counting down the days till I’m back on the field.”

Staley was 6-9 on field goal attempts this season, with a long of 45 and had kicked 19 extra points. After he left Saturday’s game, backup Casey Legg kicked two field goals and four extra points.

Staley also missed parts of the 2019 season with injuries. In Stanley’s absence, Legg made 2-4 field goal attempts, including a long of 51 yards.

Staley has also kicked off 24 times this season, with four touchbacks. Legg has kicked off 12 times with two touchbacks.
