2025 TE recruit JT Taggart picks Maryland over WVU Football

The hot streak for the WVU football staff took one loss to start the weekend. Class of 2025 tight end JT Taggart picked Maryland over West Virginia, announcing his commitment to the Terrapins Saturday morning.

Listed at 6-foot-7 and 225 pounds, Taggart, a Calvert Hall College High School product out of Baltimore, Md., is rated as worthy of three stars by multiple major recruiting outlets. Rivals places Taggart as their No. 40 player in Maryland.

Taggart’s commitment comes after taking his official visit to College Park on May 6. He did visit Morgantown back in January.

Prior to his commitment, Rivals actually projected Taggert to the Mountaineers. It’s possible West Virginia’s attention going to other recruits, as Taggart was not among those to visit WVU in recent weeks, caused him to decide to stay in Maryland and join the Big Ten.

In this day and age, it’s now possible Taggart could be someone West Virginia looks at again in the future, especially with the December National Signing Day for 2025 prospects still many months away.

Boston College, Colorado, Indiana, Louisville, Miami (FL) and Pitt were among some of the other programs pursuing Taggart.
