2026 3-Star LB Expressed Appreciation for WVU DC Zac Alley After Junior Day

A three-star linebacker recruit coming off a monster season expressed his appreciation for WVU defensive coordinator Zac Alley after spending time with him at Junior Day on Saturday.
“Had a great time on Saturday at WVU junior day with my guy,” said Virginia native and Patriot High School product Mathieu Kanu on social media.
Kanu, a skilled linebacker in the 2026 class, took a trip to West Virginia to experience the campus and meet with the coaches a couple weeks after being re-offered by the new staff.

WVU extended Kanu a second offer to show their continued interest on Jan. 17. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 227 pounds, Kanu is ranked as a three-star by Rivals and has offers from all across the country.
Kanu told WV Sports Now that the WVU coaches told him they love his character and the way he plays.
Power Four programs like Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, North Carolina, South Carolina, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech are also pursuing Kanu. Multiple national recruiting outlets even have Penn State as high on him.
Members of the Virginia Tech coaching staff visited Kanu at school recently on Jan. 30.
Kanu posted 137 total tackles with 100 credited to him as solo, 16 tackles for a loss, 16 sacks and three forced fumbles as a junior in 2024. With his senior season ahead, there’s no telling where his value will be if he follows up one elite season with another.
