MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a 74-59 victory over Pitt in the Backyard Brawl, West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins earns his 902nd career victory, tying his coaching career with Bob Knight on the all-time wins list.

Huggins moves up to fifth all-time on the list.

Knight was known for coaching at Indiana from 1971 to 2000, during which time he won the National Championship three times (1976, 1981, 1987).

Huggins won his 900th game in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Tournament, after defeating Morehead State. Huggins was honored before the season opener against Oakland, with a No. 900 WVU jersey, presented by WVU athletic director Shane Lyons.

The all-time great coach will have an opportunity to pass Knight next Thursday, when WVU plays Elon in the Shriners Children Charleston Classic.

For Huggins, No. 902 doesn’t matter as much to him as it does to other people.

“Guys, I’m telling you, I know you’re going to think it’s BS but I don’t think about it,” Huggins said. “I have great respect for coach Knight, he’s become a good friend of mine. Would it make a difference if I won 902, or 900? It doesn’t matter.”
