Brown Extends First Offer as WVU Head Coach

Within in 24 hours of being named West Virginia’s 35th head coach, Neal Brown has wasted little time making an impact for the Mountaineers, extending an offer to 2020 Boyle County High School (KY) wide receiver Reese Smith.

Brown – who attended the same high school as Smith – may be a new face in Morgantown, but this actually the second time Smith has received an offer from West Virginia’s new coach.

“He actually offered me at Troy when he was there and I went down there and went to a camp and worked out for him,” Smith told DubVNation.

Since then, the three-star receiver has secured offers from Tennessee, Kentucky and Louisville, but had positive things to say about his latest offer from West Virginia.

“I feel good about [West Virginia] especially with coach Brown and his staff there. I think WVU is an amazing football program, too. I know that they have a rich tradition of football there. I want to visit as soon as I can.”

At 5-foot-11 and 175-pounds, Smith displays excellent hands and crisp route-running but also lines up at safety for Boyle County.

Coach Brown also extended an offer to Smith’s high school teammate and 2020 running back prospect Landen Bartleson.
