Dana Holgorsen Becomes Free Agent After Nebraska Dismissal
Former West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen is back on the open market. Nebraska believed Holgorsen of his duties as offensive coordinator on Saturday afternoon.
Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule released a statement about the decision.
“While there are many areas that need improvement, our offensive plan and execution is simply not working. Earlier today, I relieved offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen of his duties. As I have recently shared, Dana has a fantastic offensive mind, he is a strong leader, and he has done great work here at Nebraska. But simply, we need a change. Co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas will take over play-calling duties,” said Rhule as part of his statement.
Holgorsen, now 55, has been with Nebraska since first joining the Cornhuskers as an offensive consultant in 2024 and then promoted to offensive coordinator in November of that season. Prior to his time with Nebraska, Holgorsen briefly served as an analyst and scout with TCU following the end of his five-year stint as head coach at Houston.

Holgorsen led the Cougars to a 31-28 overall record with a 2-1 mark in bowl games while leading the program through the transition from the Group of 5 level to the Big 12.
But Holgorsen is still mostly known for his eight-year run at the helm of the West Virginia Mountaineers. Holgorsen compiled a 61-41 record at WVU, leading the Mountaineers to seven bowl games, three top 25 finishes and two 10-win seasons.. The highlight of his tenure happened in his first season on the job, winning the Big East and then capping off the season with an historic Orange Bowl victory over Clemson.
He has a 92-69 record as head coach.
