Ohio State transfer DB Cameron Martinez gets WVU offer

Ever since the Transfer Portal window opened on Monday, Cameron Martinez has been receiving tons of interest from programs all over the country. And now the Ohio State transfer safety can add West Virginia to his list of offers.

Martinez revealed his WVU offer towards the end of the night after already posting about offers from schools like Cincinnati and Boston College.

After being rated as a four-star recruit coming out of high school in 2020, Michigan native Martinez decided to sign with the Buckeyes. He eventually found a role as a backup player on the Ohio State defense during both the 2021 and 2022 season. But unfortunately for Martinez, injuries derailed his chances to have an impact in 2023.

Martinez still has two seasons left of eligibility thanks to a COVID-19 waiver for 2020. He recorded 36 tackles, an interception that was returned for a touchdown and four pass break-ups throughout his time in Columbus.

The Mountaineers have made their intentions to gain depth in the secondary known and Martinez would undoubtedly be a big addition. The last time West Virginia was able to pluck a defensive back from a Big Ten school was Beanie Bishop last year, and he ended up being incredibly valuable to the WVU defense this past season.

You can find Cameron Martinez and other transfer players listed on our partner the Portal Report’s database.
