Former WVU forward Patrick Suemnick is reopening his recruitment, he announced on Thursday. Suemnick originally committed to DePaul under new head coach Chris Holtmann.

“After careful consideration and discussions with my family and mentors, I have decided to reopen my collegiate recruitment. I am grateful for all the support and opportunities thus far and look forward to exploring new ventures,” Suemnick wrote on social media.

Suemnick entered the transfer portal on April 10, a few weeks following WVU’s hiring of Darian DeVries.

Suemnick averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds through 32 games for the Mountaineers this past season. The 6-foot-8 forward filled in for Jesse Edwards, who dealt with a fractured wrist injury for over a month during the season and posted 8.2 points and 4.8 rebounds during his six starts. Suemnickโ€™s highlight of the 2023-24 season occurred vs. Kansas, scoring 20 points and leading the Mountaineers to an upset win over the then-No. 3 Jayhawks.

Suemnick joined West Virginiaโ€™s program in 2022 under former HC Bob Huggins. The Green Bay, Wi. native previously played at Robert Morris and Triton College (JUCO) before WVU. Suemnick stayed with the Mountaineers following Hugginsโ€™ resignation, joining interim HC Josh Eilert.

Suemnick has one year of eligibility remaining.
