A player from a West Virginia school was drafted in the first round of the 2023 USFL Draft.

He’s not a Mountaineer, but he did play college football in the state of West Virginia for Shepherd University, a school located in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Offensive guard Joey Fisher was selected by the Houston Gamblers with the 18th overall pick on Tuesday afternoon.

Fisher became an All-American at the Division-II level, starting three seasons for the Rams. He was also an All-PSAC First Team selection his senior season. Listed at 6’5″, 320 pounds, Fisher’s size and success earned him invites to the Hula, NFLPA Bowl and Reese Bowl events for high level college players with hopes of being drafted to the NFL.
