Joe Mazzulla, former WVU guard, coached the Boston Celtics to 57 wins during his first season as head coach. Celtics earned second place in the Eastern Conference, just one game behind 1-seed Milwaukee Bucks.

Mazzulla’s rookie season as head coach makes history, earning the second-highest win total for a first-year Celtics coach.

Mazzulla took over the reigns as head coach after Ime Udoka was suspended for the 2022-23 season. Mazzulla was eventually named full-time head coach in February after a good start. Mazzulla coached Team Giannis in the NBA All-Star Game as well.

Mazzulla will make his NBA coaching playoff debut this Saturday, facing the 7-seed of the play-in series.

Other Mountaineers in the NBA Playoffs: Jevon Carter with the Bucks and Miles McBride with the New York Knicks. Carter earned a 1-seed and McBride earned a 5-seed.
