Jon Rothstein Explains Return of WVU Tagline After Backyard Brawl
College basketball analyst Jon Rothstein shocked WVU basketball fans last season when he dropped his signature tagline, “West Virginia Basketball. Tougher than a long weekend at your in-laws.”
This season, it returned.
Rothstein initially explained that the line was made to “reflect Bob Huggins and Press Virginia.” While he kept it when Josh Eilert was WVUโs interim head coach, he stopped using it during Darrian DeVries’ team.
Dear Morgantown,
The "West Virginia Basketball — Tougher than a long weekend at your in-laws tagline" was made to reflect Bob Huggins and Press Virginia.
That era is now over.
Tag lines CAN NOT and WILL NEVER be forced.
It is TBD if a new one will arise.
Sincerely,
JR

Thursday, he said the line can apply to multiple eras of WVU.
To Whom It May Concern:
West Virginia's tagline was resurrected because after further review, it encapsulates more than just one era of the Mountaineers' program.
This is for you Morgantown.
Sincerely,

WVU improved to 4-0 with a 71-49 win over Pitt Thursday in the Backyard Brawl.
WVU basketball will take the court again at 7 p.m. Monday when it hosts Lafayette.
