JUCO Ballhawk Tim Roberson Joins the Mountaineers | WVU Football All 105
All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2026 WVU Football Roster.
Rich Rodriguez loves his junior college transfers, and he also badly needs to rebuild his secondary after two straight years at the bottom of Power Four in most pass defense-oriented categories. Tim Roberson, a 5-foot-11, 182 pound redshirt junior, amassed six interceptions at Iowa Western Community College last season, the type of rangy safety who can read the quarterback’s eyes and get to the football before opposing receivers do.
Roberson will also need to prove he can adapt his play style to Division I, however, and after lighting up the stat sheet last season, he won’t have a chance to catch quarterbacks unaware anymore. If Roberson can continue to defy the odds as he makes the transition to Big 12 football, it’ll make for more than just a heartwarming story: it’ll provide a much-needed boost for WVU Football’s questionable defense.

Last Year: Roberson spent his last two seasons at Iowa Western Community College, earning an honorable mention to his classification’s All-America team.
Stats: 33 tackles (25 solo), six interceptions, two tackles for loss and three pass breakups.
Post-Camp Outlook: There are ten players listed at safety on the Mountaineers’ roster, including a series of true freshmen and transfers from Division II or junior college like Roberson. If promising freshmen like Matt Sieg don’t break out right away, experienced veterans like Roberson will need to step up and fill the gaps.
Projected Role: Roberson’s nose for the football should help him earn playing time in 2026, perhaps as a ‘center field’ safety in the style of Ed Reed.
Accolades, Highlights: After racking up six interceptions last season, 247Sports gave Roberson a three-star rating on their JUCO-transfer dedicated grading scale.
