WVU Football
Full 2026 WVU Football Roster Breakdown
WVU Football finished No. 14 out of 16 teams in the Big 12 last season, a slow start in head coach Rich Rodriguez’s triumphant return to Morgantown.
The Mountaineers got a late start on the offseason, agreeing to terms with Rodriguez on December 12, 2024; with the transfer portal already picked over and a flood of players hitting the road after Neal Brown’s firing, West Virginia’s staff looked for unconventional ways to flesh out their roster, including a series of junior college transfers.
While they showed flashes of brilliance in 2025, defeating Pitt in the Backyard Brawl and seeing a solid debut from true freshman quarterback Scotty Fox Jr., West Virginia lost star tailback Jahiem White to an ACL tear during the second week of the season.
The Mountaineers also struggled to rebuild one of the worst secondaries in Division I, falling near the bottom of the pack in most pass rush statistics for the second year in a row. Benefitting from a full offseason to implement his vision for WVU, head coach Rich Rodriguez will face far higher expectations in 2026 as he tries to improve on a 4-8 (2-7 Big 12) record.
Here’s a look at the Mountaineers’ 2026 roster; continually check West Virginia Sports Now‘s All 105 series as we compile profiles of each individual athlete. Sorted alphabetically, each roster entry contains a player’s number, position, class, height, weight and hometown.
2026 WVU Football Roster
42/Alex Adebayo/DB/R-So/6-foot-1/192 lbs/Elkridge, Md.
Talented defensive backs come at a premium in college football, and the Mountaineers took a flyer on redshirt sophomore cornerback Alex Arebayo as one piece in the puzzle of next seasonโs secondary. 6-foot-1 and 192 pounds, Adebayo spent two seasons in the FCS with Delaware, playing one game in 2025.
Even without much playing time, he still managed to make an impact for the Blue Hens, winning plaudits as their defensive scout team player of the week early in the season. For a program priding itself on a hard edge like WVU under Rich Rodriguez, those sorts of contributions matter.

99/David Afogho/EDGE/R-Jr/6-foot-2/246 lbs/Boston, Mass.
Afogho posted 37 tackles (20 solo) last season, adding five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks across 12 games played. Afoghoโs highlights show a strong if unremarkable edge rusher: while he didnโt make it to the quarterback on most of his plays, he still managed to generate pressure and impact the game.
Bowling Greenโs defense struggled last season โ much like the Mountaineers โ but if West Virginia can improve, a better defensive unit will provide Afogho with more opportunities to get home.

65/Malik Agbo/OL/R-Sr./6-foot-4/275 lbs/Federal Way, Wash.
Malik Agbo transferred to West Virginia ahead of the 2025 season after spending the first three years of his collegiate career with the Texas Longhorns. An offensive lineman who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 275 pounds, Agbo played both guard and tackle during his time in Austin.
As a Mountaineer, Agbo played in every game and even earned one start.

59/Josh Aisosa/OL/R-So./6-foot-3/325 lbs/McKinney, Texas
Josh Aisosa, listed at 6-foot-3, 325-pound, is now a redshirt sophomore embarking on his second season as a Mountaineer. A relative newcomer to football, he began his football career as a high school sophomore in 2021, but that didnโt stop him from earning a three-star rating as a recruit, ranking as the No. 52 interior lineman in the country for the class of 2024 per On3.
Aisosa also wrestled in high school, a two-sport combination that could help him on the gridiron because of the focus on techniques regarding body control, grappling and weight transfer.

4/DaโMun Allen/CB/Jr./6-foot-3/190 lbs/Sanford, Fla.
The Mountaineers have established a pipeline from Hutchinson Community College, one of the nationโs leading JUCO programs, over the past two seasons under Rich Rodriguez. Cornerback DaโMun Allen, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound junior, is one of the latest athletes to join that pipeline.
His lanky frame will help him go blow-for-blow with even the tallest wide receivers, and Allen has the ball skills to match: he racked up four interceptions, two pass breakups and 28 tackles (16 solo) across 12 games last season.
Click here to learn more about Da’Mun Allen.
19/Max Anderson/QB/R-Fr./6-foot-0/208 lbs/Martinsburg, W.Va.
Max Anderson, back after a redshirt season in 2025, hails from West Virginiaโs eastern panhandle, having made history as he led Spring Mills High School to their first-ever state championship appearance in 2024. Despite suffering a loss in the game, Anderson brought home Championship MVP honors and earned an offer from WVU soon thereafter.
Standing six-feet tall and tipping the scale at 208 pounds, Anderson is a dual threat quarterback who threw for 16 touchdowns to just three interceptions as a senior.

82/Cam Ball/TE/R-Sr./6-foot-7/240 lbs/Glenn Dale, Md.
To bolster the opportunities for the offense even more, the WVU football program added Cam Ball due to his major conference experience and blocking capabilities.
Known as a blocking tight end, the 6-foot-7 and 250-pound Ball will spend his final year of eligibility in Morgantown.
After starting his college career with Buffalo in 2023, Ball moved up to Mississippi State in the SEC before eventually finding his way to West Virginia in the Big 12. Ball could fit in as a perfect blocker in Rich Rodriguezโs spread offense.

39/Jayden Bell/CB/R-Jr./5-foot-10/156 lbs/Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Redshirt junior Jayden Bell joined the Mountaineers as a preferred walk-on in 2023. The son of former WVU receiver Grantis Bell, who amassed more than 900 yards in Morgantown and now works as an NFL referee, Jayden Bell plays on the other side of the ball at cornerback.
Listed at 5-foot-10 and 156 pounds, Bell is lighter than even the typical Power Four slot cornerback; the next snap he takes at the collegiate level will be his first. While he could earn some snaps during blowouts or on special teams as his college career nears its conclusion โ as a walk-on entering his fourth season, Bell might not come back as a redshirt senior โ he could make an even more valuable contribution to the Mountaineers through the continuity he provides.

61/Trevor Bigelow/OL/R-Fr./6-foot-4/267 lbs/Fairmont, W.Va.
Brought in as one of five members in an 18-man WVU football 2025 class who grew up in the Mountain State, offensive lineman Trevor Bigelow attended Fairmont Senior High School, helping the powerhouse program to a pair of AA state championships during that time.
Fairmont has turned into a pipeline to WVU Football on the offensive line in particular, with Steelers center Zach Frazier and brothers Darius and Dante Stills both playing there in high school. Can Bigelow continue that legacy?

27/ChaMarryus Bomar/CB/R-Fr./5-foot-10/184lbs/Duncan, S.C.
A three-star recruit out of South Carolinaโs Westside High, cornerback ChaMarryus Bomar took a redshirt year during his first season of college football, appearing in just two games.
Recruited as an โATHโ with potential on both sides of the ball out of high school, Bomar stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 184 pounds, a shifty, speedy athlete with a nose for the end zone.
WVU Football needs to overhaul their secondary after putting together one of the worst passing defenses of any Power Four program last season, so Bomar could gain an immediate leg up in the cornerback position battle after having a year to learn and develop last season.
Click here to learn more about ChaMarryus Bomar.
26/Makhi Boone/CB/Fr./6-foot-0/171 lbs/Elyria, Ohio
Part of a freshman class with three dozen members, freshman cornerback Makhi Boone enters a position group in need of an immediate overhaul. The Mountaineers allowed 28 passing touchdowns and the eighth-most passing yards in Division I – FBS last season; even for a head coach like Rich Rodriguez who prides himself on high-flying offense, that sort of performance wonโt foster success.
Boone, who stands six feet tall and weighs 171 pounds, possesses one of the most important qualities for a defense in need of reform: of the 37 tackles he had a hand in during his senior year of high school, 27 were solo stops.

20/Martavious Boswell/RB/Jr./5-foot-9/170 lbs/Ft. Worth, Texas
In an offense predicated on a ground attack, Rich Rodriguez will need to find help behind star leading back Cam Cook. While Martavious Boswell will be in his first year under Rodriguez, his overall ability could earn him playing time and carries.
It will also be necessary for West Virginia to find production to share the workload behind Cook.
West Virginia beat out Kansas State, Mississippi State and Tulsa for Boswell as a transfer out of a community college.
Click here to learn more about Martavious Boswell.
62/Phillip Bowser/OL/R-Fr./6-foot-4/266 lbs/Youngstown, Ohio
Phillip Bowser earned a three-star ranking in high school, receiving offers from close to two dozen other college programs โ UCF and Ohio State among them โ before settling on WVU Football. He then experienced a redstart season as a Mountaineer in 2025.
A 6-foot-4, 266-pound offensive tackle, Bowser is one of the carryovers on a revamped offensive line that’s now coached by the legendary Rick Trickett.
The offensive line served as a major priority for Rodriguez and company this offseason, but with more experienced players to compete with in summer practices, it still might take time for Bowser to find a role on the field.

12/Jacob Bradford/S/R-Fr./5-foot-11/185 lbs/Baton Rouge, La.
Billed as a four-star recruit in high school, safety Jacob Bradford appeared in five games as a backup with his home stateโs LSU Tigers last season. Even so, he managed to preserve a redshirt season thanks to a rule change preventing bowl game participation from counting against college eligibility.
With head coach Brian Kelly fired early in the 2025 season, Bradford hit the transfer portal at seasonโs endโฆ dropping one of the top young safeties in the nation in the Mountaineersโ lap.
Now he joins a West Virginia team that struggled mightily against the pass last season, providing an immediate chance at playing time.

5/Jaden Bray/WR/R-Sr./6-foot-2/209 lbs/Norman, Okla.
Plagued by injuries throughout his college career, Jaden Bray still believes he can make an impact as a Mountaineer.
In an upbeat mood after a spring practice, the redshirt senior spoke candidly about having his season cut short in each of his first two years at WVU and why he feels 2026 will be different.
โI was frustrated about what had happened, but once I realized it was broken, my mindset really went to what can I do to get back and ready for next season,โ said Bray about enduring a season-ending injury at Ohio in 2025, going down in the second game of the season for the second year in a row.

74/Kevin Brown/OL/Fr./6-foot-6/280 lbs/Harrisburg, Pa.
The headliner of the historic WVU football 2026 class, Kevin Brown is tasked with anchoring the offensive line for years to come.
Listed at 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds, Brown even looks ready to help West Virginia win the battle of the trenches as a true freshman.
โHeโs everything you want in a football player and everything you want in a guy as well,โ responded Rich Rodriguez when asked to describe what he loves about Brown after signing him in December.
Rodriguez also referred to Brown as a โmonsterโ and called recruiting him a โno-brainerโ as well. He even consistently said Brown lived up to his hype once he got on the practice field in the spring.
6/Max Brown/QB/R-Sr./6-foot-2/221 lbs/Tulsa, Okla.
51/Taylor Brown/DL/R-Fr./6-foot-3/290 lbs/Upper Marlboro, Md.

Cook began spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Horned Frogs, even seeing the field for two carries against WVU as the Mountaineers won 24-21 in Fort Worth.
Cook tallied a staggering 1,659 yards for an average of 5.6 yards per touch at Jacksonville State last season. He scored 16 touchdowns and also added 30 receptions and 296 yards as a receiver. His total came without even playing in the Gamecocksโ bowl game. Cook was named Conference USA Player of the Year and to multiple major All-American teams.
After playing multiple styles and different spots in the offense, Cook looks to bring a newfound versatility to Morgantown.
Helping his transition from Conference USA, Cook is already familiar with the Big 12. Prior to transferring to Jacksonville State, Cook totaled 608 yards and nine touchdowns off 135 rushing attempts with the Horned Frogs.

3/Matt Sieg/S/Fr./6-foot-0/180 lbs/McDonald, Pa.
One of the most unique players on the 2026 Mountaineers, Matt Sieg is expected to be a key piece for the West Virginia defense, but will he actually influence multiple sides of the ball?
Based on Siegโs athleticism and Rich Rodriguez leaving the door open, many have speculated about the possibility of WVUโs prized four-star recruit getting time on offense. While how much Sieg plays on offense, if at all, and if it ever happens in a game remains to be seen, he did earn enough of a look during the spring practice period to warrant defensive coordinator Zac Alley discussing it following the Gold-Blue Spring Festival on April 18.
โI think Mattโs [Sieg] done a great job. I mean, everything you could expect of a freshman coming into a new system and all of that. Heโs got all the athletic ability in the world and heโs been running really well. I think heโs really smart so he plays smart. Heโs very football savvy. Heโs just a natural kid out there. He understands where the ball is, the angles to take and heโs got great ball skills and all of that,โ Alley said, raving about what itโs been like to coach Sieg so far.
Sieg surprised many across the region by announcing his decision to flip from Penn State to WVU, picking the Mountaineers over offers from rivals Pitt and Virginia Tech.
23/Emory Snyder/N/S/Fr./6-foot-3/200 lbs/Bixby, Okla.

Strachan only appeared in one game with USC, catching a single pass for 25 yards. However, he made 25 receptions for 304 yards and scored a touchdown with the Broncos. While with Boise State, he made four big catches for 40 yards against Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl.
Having grown up in The Bahamas, Strachan and did not begin playing football until 2019 after moving to the United States. He then played high school football at John Carroll High School in Florida.

84/Ryan Ward/TE/Jr./6-foot-4/240 lbs/Rutherford, N.J.
Now the veteran in the room, tight end Ryan Ward is poised for a bigger role in his second season as a Mountaineer. Ward discussed his role and what the WVU football program is all about after spring practice on Monday, April 6.
โI look at it as a long time coming, just being at North Carolina and seeing the older guys there and then seeing the older guys here and that it was kinda gonna happen eventually,โ said Ward about ascending up the depth chart.
Ward also fully knows how Rich Rodriguez runs a program as heโs preparing for his second year in Morgantown, making him an asset for the staff off the field and in the locker room in addition to whatever he can produce given more opportunities in games.
โJust tempo, physicality, running on and off the field, just everything we do, itโs way different from any other place Iโve ever been.โ
