Former WVU Football CB Explores Return to CFB, Enters Transfer Portal

Based on the recent ruling, former WVU cornerback Jason Chambers has decided to change course. Chambers will now attempt a return to college football.

On Saturday, Chambers announced his decision, one that will not include a return to West Virginia.

“Following Friday’s preliminary injunction. I will be exploring a return to college football for my 5th year of eligibility and entering the transfer portal,” posted Chambers on social media.

This comes three months after Chambers took part in the New York Jets’ rookie minicamp.

Chambers transferred to West Virginia ahead of the 2025 season. He recorded 34 total tackles with four pass deflections and an interception.

Before becoming a Mountaineer, Chambers played 11 games at Appalachian State in 2024, recording 38 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, a pass breakup and an interception.

Pro Football Focus graded the 5-foot-11, 193 pound Chambers as one of the top five cornerbacks in the Sun Belt for his efforts. Prior to his success with North Carolina’s Mountaineers, Chambers spent two seasons at North Carolina Central, earning First Team All-HBCU honors in 2023.
