Karl Joseph with Raiders

Former hard-hitting Mountaineer Karl Joseph has a new NFL home, reportedly signing a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns.

Joseph had previously been with the Oakland Raiders since being drafted by them 14th overall in the 2016 draft. Prior to last season, the Raiders declined to pick up Joseph’s fifth-year option, making him a 2020 free agent.

Joseph played in 49 games with the Raiders, making 41 starts. He intercepted four passes collected 236 tackles.

Joseph was a star while at WVU. He had 104 tackles, three forced fumbles and two interceptions as a true freshman in 2012. He had 68 tackles and one interception as a sophomore, but also scored two touchdowns. Joseph was named as Big 12 Honorable Mention player both those years.

As a junior, Joseph racked up 102 tackles, one interception and three forced fumbles. He was named to the All-Big 12 First Team

His senior season was cut short, playing only four games and suffering a season-ending knee injury. At the time of the injury Joseph was leading the nation with five interceptions.
