Less than a week after losing Kim Caldwell to Tennessee, Marshall has found its next women’s basketball coach. The Thundering Herd announced the hiring of Juli Fulks on Friday morning.

Fulks is leaving Transylvania University, where she’s been presiding over the Pioneers for 10 seasons. Fulks will arrive in Huntington with a decanted resume from the Division III level, having led Transylvania to 242 wins, six Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships, seven NCAA Tournament appearances, three Elite Eights, two Final Fours and a 2023 national championship.

“There is no doubt the impact that Coach Fulks has had during her time here.” said vice president of athletics at Transylvania Holly Sheilley about Fulks’ departure. “National Champions, 64 game winning streak, National Coach of the year, and the accolades go on. However, even without any of those, Juli is a phenomenal human being that you realize you are blessed to know. No words will explain how much we will miss her, but we are excited for her and know that this next chapter in her life will be exceptional.  She will always have a home at Transylvania.”

Fulks will now take over a Marshall team coming off its best season in program history. The Thundering Herd finished 26-7 in 2023 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1997 under Caldwell.

Upon her exit, Caldwell thanked the Marshall community at during her introductory press conference with Tennessee. “I’d like to thank Marshall University for making Marshall feel like home. Marshall will always have a special place in my heart. I really need to thank every student athlete at both institutions (Marshall and Glenville State) who helped me get here today,” said Caldwell to recognize her lone season at Marshall, and even also mentioning her prior tenure at Glenville State.
