Max Brown the Odd Man Out of QB Battle? | WVU Football All 105

All 105 is a West Virginia Sports Now series profiling each member of the 2025 WVU Football Roster.
A redshirt junior with playing experience at both Florida and Charlotte, Max Brown transferred to the Mountaineers in January to provide another arm in their quarterback battle.
While Jaylen Henderson and Nicco Marchiol appeared to gain a leg up in the chase to become West Virginia’s 2025 starter, the 6-foot-2, 223 pound Brown could still see snaps as a reserve. That’s because Henderson and Marchiol are dual threat quarterbacks with a history of injuries, so Brown might get thrust into the limelight (or help take the fire off players higher on the depth chart during lopsided contests).
5 โข Max Brown, redshirt junior quarterback
Last year:ย Brown appeared in five games at Charlotte, breaking the thumb on his throwing hand and missing more than a month of the season.
Stats: Across ten games played between Charlotte and Florida, Brown completed 62 0f 121 passes, throwing for 753 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also carried the football 56 times for 109 yards, although NCAA quarterback rushing statistics count sacks as lost rushing yardage, bringing down his average.
Camp outlook:ย During spring camp, Nicco Marchiol and Jaylen Henderson appeared to solidify themselves as the top contenders for the Mountaineers’ starting quarterback job, leaving Brown as the odd man out.
Projected role:ย Whichever of Marchiol and Henderson loses the quarterback battle will almost certainly serve as the Mountaineers’ backup, pushing Brown to the QB3 role if he doesn’t make up lost ground during the summer session.
Accolades, highlights:ย Brown served as a two-sport athlete with Florida, playing for their baseball team as an outfielder. While he never appeared in a game on the diamond for the Gators, high school scouts clocked him with a strong arm capable of throwing a baseball at 85 miles per hour.
