Former WVU women’s basketball head coach Mike Carey will be inducted into the West Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. Carey joins Jeff Hostetler, who will both be enshrined on May 7 in Charleston by the WVSWA.

Carey spent 21 seasons as head coach of the Mountaineers, winning 462 games dating back to 2001. Carey, a Clarksburg native, coached West Virginia to 11-NCAA Tournament appearances and two WNIT runner-ups. WVU won the 2014 Big 12 Regular Season Title and the 2017 Big 12 Conference Tournament under Carey as well.

The 64-year-old won three conference coach of the year awards during his tenure: Big East in 2004, 2010 and Big 12 in 2014. Carey developed 10 WNBA players and 74 all-conference recipients.

Carey retired in 2022 as the winningest coach in WVU women’s basketball history.
