MORGANTOWN, W.Va – After already making it clear he would handle play calling duties for the WVU offense, Neal Brown elaborated on that decision and who else he will rely on during his first press conference of fall camp.

Brown cited the fact that he got the job at West Virginia due to his past success offensively, both as an offensive coordinator and then head coach at Troy. He said last year was the first time in a decade he was not the main play caller for his team at the start of the season.

When asked about how much offensive coordinator Chad Scott and passing game coordinator Sean Reagan will be involved in play calling during games, Brown agreed it’s fair to say that will develop as the season progresses. He did admit he will take their input and trusts them when it comes to putting together an offensive strategy.

Brown previously revealed that he took over the offense from former offensive coordinator Graham Harrell towards the end of the 2022 season

Before relinquishing play calling to Harrell, Brown was in charge of the plays for the Mountaineers throughout his first three years at WVU. The West Virginia offense will look a bit different in 2023, going from Harrell’s balanced “Air Raid” style offense to a run heavy attack with a mobile quarterback, something that’s popular at WVU due to being the past blueprint for success.

The next step is Brown officially announcing WVU’s starting quarterback, granted he’s made it clear he will not name the winner of the competition between Garrett Greene and Nicco Marchiol until after fall camp. There’s even the possibility they both could see action early in the season.

Just a few weeks ago, Neal Brown talked with WVSN’s Mike Asti in a lengthy interview and discussed his tenure to this point. Brown went into detail about his plans for the offense in this show.
