At least one person is confident in the 2023 edition of the West Virginia Mountaineers. And what that person, WVU director of athletics Wren Baker, thinks may matter more than any other.

While appearing on a show for Country Roads Trust, Baker explained why he’s feeling good about Neal Brown’s team as they head into a very important season in the fall.

“When you’re around student-athletes, you get a sense for when there is a culture and camaraderie, and when you go over right now there is just a neat vibe amongst the team,” said Baker.

Even though most are predicting another tough season for West Virginia, Brown at least has the support of Baker right now. Of course, no one’s opinion really matters and WVU will be judged by how they perform on the field.

Brown also knows Baker will be paying as close of attention as anybody this year. Baker often says he’s not going to put the pressure of a win total bar to reach on any team, but it’s no secret West Virginia will undoubtedly move from Brown if the football program suffers through another losing season.

In a related story, Baler explained his philosophy for making a college football schedule and his strategy for making WVU’s schedule moving forward.

Also, Brown recently told WVSN’s Mike Asti that Baker is “innovative in his thinking” and the right fit to lead WVU athletics.
