Neal Brown Gives Update on Traylon Ray Injury

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Receiver Traylon Ray’s injury was as bad as it looked on the field, WVU head coach Neal Brown announced in his postgame press conference Saturday night.

“Traylon’s injury wasn’t good,” Brown said. “We don’t need to talk about it, it wasn’t good.”

With 5:41 remaining in the third quarter of a close shootout with Baylor, wide receiver Traylon Ray went down with what is expected to be a season-ending injury.

“He’ll recover, he’ll be fine, but he won’t play this year,” Brown said.

Ray had to be carted off the field as many of his teammates went over to wish him well before he was taken into the locker room.

“It hurt us emotionally,” Brown said. “It was visible on the field what it was. Our skill group’s really close and that was hard emotionally to overcome.”

Prior to the injury, Ray caught 25 balls for 22 yards and a touchdown. The sophomore entered the game with 25 receptions for 404 yards and three scores.

At the time of the injury, Baylor held a 35-28 lead over West Virginia late in the third quarter. Baylor won 49-35.
