This week’s batch of bowl projections from several major media outlets are near unanimous in predicting a West Virginia University appearance in this year’s AutoZone Liberty Bowl, but they are not all on the same page with the Mountaineers’ potential opponents. All of the outlets that have WVU in the Liberty Bowl have the Mountaineers taking on an opponent from the Southeastern Conference with Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana State and Arkansas all listed as possible opponents.

There were also a few outliers among the projections where WVU is concerned, with USA Today sending West Virginia to the First Responder Bowl to play SMU in a game scheduled to take place at SMU’s home stadium. The Sporting News has the Mountaineers going to the desert to take on Maryland in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

This week’s projections:

  • ESPN (Kyle Bonagura) – vs Kentucky in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl — Memphis, Tennessee
  • ESPN (Mark Schlabach) – vs Ole Miss in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl — Memphis, Tennessee
  • Yahoo – vs. Tennessee in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl — Memphis, Tennessee
  • 247Sports – vs Ole Miss in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl — Memphis, Tennessee

  • Bleacher Report – vs. Arkansas in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl — Memphis, Tennessee
  • CBS Sports – vs Arkansas in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl — Memphis, Tennessee
  • USA Today – vs. SMU, First Responder Bowl — Dallas, Texas
  • The Sporting News – vs Maryland in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl — Phoenix, Arizona
