No one on the national media scene shows as much love to the West Virginia Mountaineers as Pat McAfee. But even McAfee couldn’t deny the disappointment of WVU losing on Coal Rush night.

Just like any other fan, McAfee shared some of his thoughts immediately following the game on social media.

“West Virginia losing on Coal Rush night is quite a disappointment. Congrats to Iowa State on a massive win in Morgantown… A lot of season left,” McAfee said on X (formerly Twitter).

Aside from the 28-16 loss and the two fourth quarter interceptions that led to 14 points, McAfee’s disappointment also likely stems from his confidence leading up to the game all week and on ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday morning. On GameDay, McAfee predicted West Virginia to win and even referred to it as a “must-win game for Neal Brown” as well.

But instead, Brown and West Virginia once again failed to capitalize on a big opportunity against a quality opponent. The now 3-3 (2-1, Big 12) Mountaineers head into another night game against another quality conference opponent next week with fans, including Pat McAfee, left unenthusiastic once again.
