Pitcher Jack Kartsonas becomes the latest WVU baseball player to earn an MLB opportunity, signing with the Tampa Bay Rays as a free agent.

In one year with WVU, Kartsonas made 20 appearances on the mound with nine starts. He went 6-4 with a 3.66 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 66.1 innings pitched. With his strong season, Kartsonas was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and ABCA All-East Region Second Team.

Kartsonas will become the second former Mountaineer in the Rays organization along with Jacob Watters, who is currently in Double-A.

Kartsonas is the sixth Mountaineer to either be drafted by or sign as a free agent with an MLB team this week, joining draftees Logan Sauve (No. 200, Athletics), Kyle West (No. 404, Yankees), Robby Porco (No. 405, Dodgers), Griffin Kirn (No. 410, Athletics), and Skylar King (No. 448, Red Sox).
