Recapping Recent Key WVU Football 2025 Commits

Even though the WVU football staff is still waiting to hear from a few more targets, they recently gained several key commitments to bolster their 2025 recruiting class.

Below is a recap of the prospects who committed to West Virginia over the past week.

Jalil Hall – three-star WR

WVU Football landed one of the top wide receiver prospects in Pennsylvania when Jalil Hall announced his commitment to West Virginia on Instagram Live Saturday evening.

Hall (6-foot-4, 185 pounds) is a product of Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel, Pa. A consensus three-star, Hall picked WVU over offers from Buffalo, Connecticut, James Madison, Marshall, Nebraska, Pitt, Rutgers, Temple, Virginia Tech, and Wisconsin.

Hall became the fourth receiver in WVU’s 2025 recruiting class, joining Teriq Mallory, Montavin Quisenberry, and Tyshawn Dues.

Evan Powell – three-star Edge 

Evan Powell, a Maryland 2025 defensive lineman, is locked in with the WVU football program, committing to West Virginia on June 25.

Powell announced his commitment by posting a narrated video detailing his journey on social media.

Listed at 6-foot-4 and 245 pounds, Powell recorded 78 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss and 10 sacks during his junior season for Huntington High School in Huntington, Md. Powell, who has experience at both defensive tackle and defensive end, is viewed as an Edge rusher in college.

Michael Hastie – three-star LB 

The WVU football staff received more good news on June 24 as three-star linebacker Michael Hastie committed to the program. Hastie is a 6-foot-3 recruit from Douglas County High School in Georgia.

Hastie picked WVU over offers from Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Boston College, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Connecticut, Duke, East Carolina, Florida State, Georgia State, Indiana, Kansas, Liberty, Louisville, Marshall, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pitt, SMU, Texas A&M, UAB, UCF, UNLV, Wake Forest, Western Kentucky, Wright State and others.

2025 3-Star LB Michael Hastie Commits to WVU Football

Rivals, On3 Sports and 247 Sports each rank Hastie among the top 120 players for his class in Georgia.

He recorded 122 total tackles, two tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and two interceptions in 2023.

Chris Fileppo – three-star DB 

On June 23, West Virginia football picked up a key commitment for the class of 2025. Three-star defensive back Chris Fileppo made it official, showing his intention to play for the Mountaineers.

Fileppo is a rising senior at LaSalle College High School in Pennsylvania.

Fileppo (6-foot-3) received offers from Connecticut, James Madison, Lafayette, Monmouth, New Hampshire, Purdue, South Florida, Villanova and others. Fileppo was offered by West Virginia on May 21 as co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach ShaDon Brown was the primary recruiter. Fileppo was offered by WVU while already committing to JMU.

At the time of Fieppo’s commitment, West Virginia’s 2025 class ranked No. 23 in the country. The 2025 ranks as the highest class for West Virginia during Neal Brown’s tenure. WVU’s class ranks fourth in the new Big 12, trailing behind just TCU, Arizona State and Oklahoma State.
